What is possible, if fathers become more involved in the lives and education of their children?
Orchestrated by Mr. Phillip Jackson and The Black Star Project, the 2008/'09 Million Father March presented America with a fascinating "what if" as it celebrated fathers taking their children to the first day of school.
More than just a call to action, the Million Father March is a campaign producing significant opportunities for families, schools and communities across the nation. But, fathers must be willing and committed to doing more once the march has ended. They must stay actively involved in the education and safety of their children at all times.
If you are a father, or know a father you can share with, join us in being Street Style Positive™ by acknowledging the following:
The Million Father March Pledge for Fathers and Men
- I will take my children or a child to school and I will be at a school on the first day to encourage all children to do their best every day at school.
- I am responsible for the education of my child.
- I will volunteer at my child’s school three times this school year.
- I will pick up my child’s progress report or grade report when required.
- I will meet with my child’s teachers at least two times this year and support them in educating my child.
- I will teach my child the value of family as well as the value of education.
- I will work with my child’s mother or guardian to achieve the best academic and social outcomes for my child even if I do not live with my child.
