According to the U.S. GAO, more than 5 children per day die
as a direct result of child abuse; 80% of children who die from child
abuse are under 4 years old. And, 90% percent of children sexually
abused know their perpetrator. Nearly 11% of all child abuse is physical. Approximately 8% is sexual.
PREVENTION AND PROSECUTION. Child abuse is widespread. It occurs at every socioeconomic, ethnic, religious and cultural strata of society. And, it is wrong!
But, what value as a society are we willing to place on protecting and preserving
innocent young human life? Or, should we simply continue turning our
heads now in exchange for greater problems later? We must ask
ourselves, as a nation, "What's a child worth?"
